....Let's Just Say It's A MUST Have
The New Eco Styler Gel with Castor Oil & Flaxseed has been raved about since the minute it was released in late February. It took me 5ever to get my hands on it and I must say- I'm so glad I was able to get the large one!
What Makes It Different:
The ingredients alone sound like natural hair heaven: black castor oil, flaxseed, omega 3, fiber, and vitamin e. All things that help to prevent damage, encourage growth, and most importantly; smooth and sleek the edges. There was no doubt in my mind that this was going to work amazing on my hair, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. Instantly I was able to tell the difference between this gel compared to the other eco styler gels. The consistency is extremely thick!
how I used it:
I used this gel on my hair in two ways so far: to lay my edges for my puff and as a styler for my wash n' go. (both pictures above and shown in video below). For my puff, this eco styler gel was significantly more moisturizing than any of the other ones I've tried (which is almost all of them). Its almost like the gel coats each strand of hair and smooths them out individually.Plus it makes the hair look super shiny. It's mind-blowing. On top of that, I usually have to go in with a thicker or waxier edge control for my baby hairs. However I was able to use this gel to get that same smooth hold. Happy edges happy life! For my wash n'go, I first applied the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave In (I figured it would be a good fit) as my moisturizer and then applied the eco styler gel on top. I was unable to film this because I always apply my products on in the shower. However, the gel instantly clumped my curls together. Have you every tried a product and without even looking at your hair you could tell there was no frizz? Me either. However with this gel- I didn't even have to look. As my hair began to dry, I didn't notice any flaking of the product either. This product will NOT prevent any shrinkage by the way. So if your looking for something to "elongate curls" this is not the one. It will make your curls curl up to their full potential.
The only downside to using this for a wash n'go is that my style did not last long. After the second day, my hair felt very dry. My curls were still very defined but it felt super dry. With my usual products (the Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Smoothie & Soufflé) my wash n'go can last a whole week. I might try a different combination of products to see if I can get my hair to stay moisturized longer but my initial time trying it was impressive moisture retention wise. Curl definition, on the other hand, gets an A+.
thoughts In a nutshell:
Just buy it. Please. You won't be disappointed! Plus, there are tons of ways to use it. I am super excited to try it for other styles like twist outs and braid-outs. For my edges- it left the hair super shiny and moisturized. For my wash n go's- it gave me unbelievable definition. However, it does not hold in moisture for a long period of time. Try using it with a thicker leave-in if you have dry or coily hair like myself. Let me know what you think about it!
